Christmas

Joel and I are heading back to Seattle to spend Christmas with my family next weekend. I cannot wait to see my family and take in the beautiful Pacific Northwest. It helps that I'll be spending the holidays with the ones I love. Which is really what the holidays are all about. So Happy Holidays!

Mad For Plaid

I've slacking in blog posts. Forgive me but I *might* have fractured my wrist so typing is a little time consuming. Since it's Friday and I look foward to Friday's Fancies, I've decided it time for a new post.

Colorado

Our long weekend consisted of Boulder and Denver, Colorado. It was sunny and beautiful all weekend. It made up for the 10 hour drive. What did you do to enjoy your holiday weekend?

St. Patrick's Day - Friday's Fancies

Greetings, my lovely readers. Are you all excited about the weekend? I sure am. I'm excited to hang out with some dear friends and drink some beers. This Irish girl will be celebrating St. Patty's Day. Are you partaking in festivities this Saturday? I've got the red hair, pale skin, and a very Irish last name so I feel that I can wear just a subtle amount of green this holiday and be totally legit. I mean, you have to wear some green! White Christmas - Friday's Fancies

Merry Christmas! I'm at home with my family and my boyfriend. It's a lovely Christmas at the McDevitt household. I'm a day late in posting my Friday's Fancies over at {long distance loving} but at least I'm getting around to it now. Have a fabulous holiday!

I can't believe Christmas is just around the corner. I'm still waiting for it feel like the holidays. I'm not sure what I'm expecting though. Hopefully I'll figure it out soon. I am happy to report that I've already completed my shopping and all the gifts are wrapped under the tree. And by under the tree, I mean under the coffee table where our potted 24" tree resides. Our house is festive but not over the top. I really am enjoying it. If only we had a fireplace then our house would be perfect for this season. It's on my wishlist for the next place. Hope your holidays are joyful.

What are you plans this holiday? The boy and I are heading up to my parent's house. I'm giddy that I get to spend Christmas with Joel this year. What a perfect Christmas gift. I can't wait to eat lots of food, surround myself with all the ones I love and check out some awesome movies. Seeing a Christmas movie is a tradition in the McDevitt household. Holiday Time

We've been busy with holiday parties for the last couple weekends. We can cross an Ugly Sweater and Christmas Cocktail party off our holiday party list. Sadly, Joel and I never took a picture together last night while looking classy. I opted for a different dress than usual this year. It was a blush, tunic style, sheer sleeve dress. I added pearls, black nylons, an outrageous ring, and black wedges to round it out. The dress was great because I ate too much food and it wasn't a tight, bondage dress that I originally thought about wearing. So how was your weekend?

 My legs blend into the oven. They are there somewhere...I swear.

I'm so glad it's Friday again! I am looking forward to this weekend. I'll be doing some holiday shopping, checking out the Portland Bazaar and attending a holiday cocktail party! To celebrate Friday, we are over at {long distance loving} for our Friday's Fancies. I just love creating these. This week it's all about the holiday parties. I've created the perfect, modern party attire. I'm going for a similar look but I'll be rocking a blush dress and sheer sleeves with this bold, pearl necklace. I can't wait!  I adore gold. It might just be up there in my favorite color category. I love it even more during this time of the year. Maybe it's all the holiday festivities and the perfect excuse to wear an extravagant gold sequin dress. I've complied some of my favorite and lust worthy gold items. I made this little arrangement on Thanksgiving for the table. Well, I actually made two. We wrapped the vases in birch bark which added a great textural element. I t was very proud at how they turned out. Did you do any table decor at your festivities? I hope you had a wonderful Thanksgiving!

I used feathers and a little mailing tag for the place cards. Everyone seemed to like them and it was super easy.

We also take our Christmas card photo every year at Thanksgiving as well. My sisters and me.

Holiday Party

I already have one holiday cocktail party on my books. I guess it's time to start thinking of what to wear to our little holiday get together. I've pulled together four different looks. Which look are you loving? I seriously can't decide. I'd like to have four parties to go to so I could wear all the looks. Hey, a girl can dream.

LBD: dress/shoes/ring/earrings; Shine: dress/shoes/rings/necklaceThe Little Black Dress is a never fail look. Spice it up with some serious bling. All jewelry styled is Stella & Dot. The Shine look is for some serious attention. You can't be afraid of the spotlight in this dress. Warm jewelry to compliment the dress (surprisingly, this was my boyfriend's favorite look).

An interesting clock blocking Modern dress is a sheer hit at any holiday party. A keyhole neckline and orange pumps. Awesome. Of course, a Classic red dress and pearls are the perfect holiday combo. Very Parisian chic.

It's crazy to think that the holidays are just around the corner! It still feels like summer in Portland. It got up to 80 degrees today. But I'm getting really excited about creating some tablescape for all the fall and winter festivities. I might just have to throw some dinner parties so I can fill my lust for beautiful tablescapes. Here are some delightful ideas...


Natural Elements. I love the idea of bringing in some grass that's growing right outside your front door. It's a simple and vertical arrangement that definitely feels like fall.

A group of "like" items that are cohesive and in a singular color. These simple pumpkins and vases take a fresh approach with a little paint. Think of all the great grouping you could spray paint and center together....candle sticks, plastic animals, jars, pine cones, etc.

This table is fantastic. Colorful paper (felt/fabric would work too) circles arranged in a organized runner. Beautiful wood rounds to add height to terrariums filled with succulents. These runner would be very easy to create. I'm thinking solid gold metallic, black and white dots and a black and white patterned dot to add a layer.

Add color! It's best to keep your vases cohesive so your tablescape doesn't start looking too crazy and all over the place. See how the different vases in the same color works here with all the vibrant colors? Strike a balance.

Think beyond flowers. I already mention adding vertical height with grass, leaves, or feathers to make a great center piece. What about some greenery? Ferns and moss. There's always a plentiful amount of these outside.

Throw some unexpected objects on the table. Add layers beyond the table setting and floral arrangements. Pine cones and antlers are not expected but not too far fetched either. This table might be the perfect validation to buy antlers and use them for my Christmas table.

Taylor Lake

This past long weekend, we spent one night in Sunriver, Oregon. It was a fabulous time spent with friends, riding bikes, drinking, and enjoying Central Oregon.

We then ventured off into the woods to go camping one night. I took the following pictures of our camping adventure to prove that I can indeed camp. I'm outdoorsy.

Part of our drive in. This is a typical drive in for Joel during his work week. Glad we took his truck.

After a bit of a drive, we found a sweet little spot next to Taylor Lake. We cut back some bushes, made the ground even and set up our tent.

We had bacon, blue-cheese burgers, potatoes and baked beans.

Enjoyed some Sessions beer on the lake.

Of course, we had to drink some whiskey and coke too.

A fire to keep us warm. And to make s'mores too!

This is right outside our tent. This is the log I fell off in the morning while cleaning the dishes. I might not be the must graceful person.

Our final goodbye before we packed up and heading back out.

I made it out alive with only a few scratches and lots of bug bites. One mosquito bit my eyelid which decided to swell up. Not cool but beside that we had a blast camping.
